There may be another many course of interest for you. Today I am going to highlight in brief about BDS in our country nepal.

Taking about BDS ( Bachelor of dental surgery) is 5.5 years udergraduate programme in which 4.5 years is studying period and 1 year compulsory rotatary internship as equivalent to MBBS.

For the first 2 years, BDS students also read same basic science subjects as MBBS students with addition dental material and oral biology.

In 3rd year – Dental subject is oral pathology General medicine, General, surgery, forensics, Dermatology,ENT, Orthopaedics, psychiatry (important topic for dental students)

In 4th year – Oral medicine and radiology, Periodontology and oral implantology, Pedodontics and preventive dentistry and orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics

In 5th year – Public health dentistry, Conservative dentistry and endodontics, oral and maxillofacial surgery and Prosthodontics.

Some subjects and year may vary according to different university TU,KU and BPKIHS  

After completing BDS , One can work as general dentist, start up own clinic, works in government as well as private hospital, can do masters in 8 different branches of dentistry, can go foreign ( highly paid) .  

Recently , It has been changed that after completing BDS ,one can't go for masters in basic science . However it was allowed in previous years.

Working as general dentist, one can perform general procedures like extraction, restoration, oral prophylaxis, root canal  treatment, prosthetic tooth etc.  

After completing masters in different branches of dentistry one can perform complex procedures like different oral surgical  procedures, oral cancer, problem relates to Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) , different facial injuries, facial trauma, head neck neck surgeries, mouth and jaws as well as facial cosmetics surgeries like cleft lip palate surgeries etc.

BDS in itself is vast course.So one can go for BDS if interested.
